Michigan restraining order lawyer Paul J. Tafelski (https://www.michigandefenselaw.com/restraining-order-lawyer/) releases a new article that explains the two general types of personal protective orders (PPOs). According to the lawyer, there were 66,316 incidents of domestic violence in Michigan in 2016. This data comes from the Michigan Incident Crime Reporting database.

“According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 41% of women and 14% of men are injured by intimate partner violence, and 16% of murders overall stem from this type of violence. The large number of incidents, injuries, and deaths related to domestic violence has resulted in a rising amount of attention paid to these crimes over the past several decades,” says the Michigan restraining order lawyer.

The lawyer explains that domestic violence is a rising crime and law enforcement has increased its focus on these crimes. False accusations can usually be used as revenge against the wrongly accused person. Since there is an added focus on domestic violence, a person can report their spouse to have them arrested even if the violence never occurred.

Attorney Paul J. Tafelski tells victims of domestic abuse that they have a number of options. One option is to get a restraining order or personal protective order. PPOs are generally temporary restraining orders. They can be enforced to limit a person’s actions towards another person.

Attorney Tafelski describes PPO as a restraining order or preventing a person from engaging in violence, threats to harm, stalking, or other violent behavior. PPOs in Michigan can be used for domestic violence. It doesn't matter if the couples are married.

According to the criminal defense attorney, there are two types of PPOs in Michigan. There are two types of PPOs in Michigan: the domestic PPO (for domestic use) and the stalking PPO (for general use). A domestic PPO may be filed against anyone who is in a marital relationship with the accuser. This can be requested by an accuser if there has been a history of interference with personal liberties.

Attorney Tafelski further explains that there is another type of PPO called stalking PPO. This PPO is available if someone is accused or suspected of doing acts that could make someone in a relationship feel threatened, harassed, or afraid.

Lastly, attorney Paul Tafelski emphasizes that if someone is facing accusations of domestic violence, it is important to seek the help of an experienced defense lawyer. Having a skilled defense lawyer may be able to help the accused protect their rights and their freedom.
